There has been a very active Women's Support Group at the Centre for
many years. Frequently people have a fear of support groups and imagine
that they are nothing but a catalogue of doom and gloom. At Sligo Cancer
Support Centre, it is quite to opposite. We are "Living beyond Cancer"
and the emphasis is on hope and turning a negative experience into a
positive one. It is usually a very social occasion with talks on
self-image, nutrition, skin care etc. Support takes place over a cup of
tea and a chat in smaller groups. The atmosphere is informal and very
caring.
Support and information for men's cancers is provided through one to one
support, and group support. Again, this service is provided in a very
informal, confidential and caring environment.
